Chunky
A behind-the-scenes tool you as a player never touch directly — but your play may be smoother because of it. New landscape normally forms only the moment you step into it, and when that's hundreds of chunks at once (say, galloping on a horse or gliding in an Elytra) the server stutters for a beat. Chunky can do that work calmly in advance: an operator hands it an area and it pre-generates the terrain quickly, efficiently and safely, so the ground is ready before you even arrive. On our server we run it by hand, mainly when we widen the world border — always off-peak so it doesn't compete with normal play. The result is survival without needless lag spikes from map generation.
How to use
- 1As a player you enter nothing — it only runs on an operator's command, and its whole point is to make the game stutter less for you.
- 2Once an area is pre-generated you reach it more smoothly, even when racing in on a horse or gliding there in an Elytra.
- 3Pre-generation doesn't touch your builds or your loot — it only prepares terrain no one has seen yet.
Chunky doesn't create anything new or erase your surroundings — it just "draws" ahead of time the landscape that would have generated anyway once you arrived. If you feel the server hitch for a moment, feel free to report it: pre-generating a stretch of the world may be all it takes.
