Tool durability

No more guessing when your favourite pickaxe will break. Whenever you hold a tool, weapon or piece of gear in your main hand, a line appears above your hotbar with the item's name, how many uses you have left (in green) and how many you've already spent (in yellow) — and the numbers change in real time as you work, so you instantly know when it's time to go repair. It applies to ordinary vanilla gear: every pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe and sword from wood to netherite, plus the bow, crossbow, trident, mace, shears, fishing rod, flint and steel, shield and elytra. It's a server-side datapack, so there's nothing to install and it works exactly the same for everyone. And if you'd like the exact durability in the item's tooltip too, just press F3 + H in vanilla to turn on advanced tooltips.

How to use

  1. 1Nothing to install — the datapack runs on the server and works for everyone automatically.
  2. 2Hold a tool, weapon or piece of gear in your main hand → its name and remaining uses pop up above your hotbar.
  3. 3Watch the green number (remaining) drop and the yellow one (used) climb, and go repair the item in time.
  4. 4Want the exact figure in the item tooltip too? Press F3 + H to turn on advanced tooltips.

Good to know

It only ever shows the item in your main hand — a worn chestplate, an equipped elytra or a shield in your off-hand won't show a number until you actually hold it. And it only counts ordinary vanilla gear; custom items show nothing. Above all, don't wait for the number to hit zero — repair in time on an anvil, or run Mending, which tops the item up as you gain XP.
