Horses: stats & breeding

Finally know what horse you've actually got. Crouch and look at a horse (donkey, mule) for a moment — or ride it — and its three key stats appear above the hotbar: speed, jump height and health. And they're not just bare numbers: the datapack remembers your best mount so far and, for each stat, tells you right away whether the new one is better or worse. So you instantly see which is worth breeding and which is just a hack. The little delay before it shows is deliberate — it means stats don't pop up constantly, only when you're really looking a horse over. That's especially handy for breeding: in vanilla a foal's stats are rolled from both parents (plus a dash of randomness), so crossing your best horses tends to give better foals. With /trigger mountsinfo.options you tune the whole display — turn stats on separately for looking and for riding, switch them from the action bar to chat, or reset the saved record and start breeding from scratch. Perfect for building stables and breeding fast steeds to sell.

How to use

  1. 1Tame a horse by mounting it repeatedly until it accepts you.
  2. 2Crouch (shift) and look at the horse for a moment, or ride it → see speed, jump and health.
  3. 3Check the arrows next to the stats — the datapack tells you whether the horse beats your best one so far.
  4. 4Feed your best horses golden apples or carrots → the foal inherits stats from both parents.
  5. 5Fine-tune what and how it shows via /trigger mountsinfo.options (action bar vs chat, looking vs riding, reset record).
shift + look at a horse/trigger mountsinfo.options
Good to know

Each of the three stats is rolled separately, so even a plain-looking horse can be a great jumper — check all three values before writing it off. And if you want the record to start fresh (say, for a new breeding project), reset your saved personal best in the /trigger mountsinfo.options menu.
