Simple Voice Chat
Real in-game voice chat — you hear the people around you, and the further away they are the quieter they get, exactly like real life. Great for building together, cave expeditions or just chatting by the campfire. It works by proximity: normally people hear you out to about 48 blocks, and if you crouch and whisper the range shrinks to half — handy for a quiet word between the two of you. By default you talk by holding the V key (push-to-talk), but in the settings you can switch to voice activation, where the mic opens on its own as soon as you speak. You install a small client mod once (for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt matching your game version); anyone without it plays completely normally, they just won't hear anyone or be heard — the mod is deliberately not required here. And when your group scatters across the map, you start a group: inside it you hear one another across the whole world regardless of distance, like your own walkie-talkie.
How to use
- 1Download and install the Simple Voice Chat client mod for your game version and launcher (Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt).
- 2Join the server as usual — a microphone icon pops up bottom-left; click it to pick your mic and headphones.
- 3Talk by holding the V key — nearby people hear you, quieter the further away. Crouch (shift) to whisper at a shorter range.
- 4In the mod's settings adjust the volume, or switch from push-to-talk to voice activation so you don't hold a key.
- 5Want to talk to your group at a distance? Open the group menu, create a group and invite friends with /voicechat invite <player>.
The mod won't install itself — you have to add it to your client, otherwise you'll hear nothing from voice chat. And when your group splits up across the map, start a group: inside it you hear each other at any distance, whereas normal voice only carries about 48 blocks.
